About the blog:

My mother's name was Mei Oi, which means "beautiful love" - a perfect description of motherhood at its best. Of course, being a parent isn't always pretty, and sometimes the "love" feels like necessary fuel for powering through moments of exhaustion and exasperation!

I started this blog as a space for chronicling some of my own misadventures in new parenting, but also as a tribute to moms everywhere - the famous and the unsung, the glamorous and the drool-encrusted, the thriving and the barely surviving - who are the gatekeepers of human experience for the brand-new members of our tribe.

As a new mom, I spent a fair amount of time mourning the loss of my untethered,

pre-parenthood life, and to be honest, I don't know if that longing will ever completely go away. But the rewards of this phase are many: in addition to delighting in having an endlessly cuddlable little bug in my life, I've also been thrilled to connect with, and be inspired by, a constellation of amazing moms. I am in awe of their strength and their stories, and I can't wait to share them with you.

Oh, and Mars is my first son, Marcel - the one who got me into this whole mess in the first place!
